How to setup automated Super Stapling

1. In the Xonboard dashboard, click on your organisation name, then click Configure superannuation.
2. Open Step 2: Automated super stapling, then:
   • Review your organisation details
   • Complete the declaration by clicking Agree & Declare
3. On the next screen, under Notify the ATO of a hosted service, take note of your unique Software ID (SSID).

2. Select a business entity: If you have multiple business entities, select the business entity you'd like to setup super stapling for.
3. Under My hosted software services, click Notify the ATO of a hosted service.
4. Search for the following provider details:
   • Provider name: SuperAPI.com.au
   • Provider ABN: 67 674 661 244
   • Enter your unique software ID (SSID).
5. Click Next, then click Save to complete the authorisation.

What is Super Stapling?

Super stapling is a government initiative that was introduced to reduce cases of employees unnecessarily creating additional super funds when they start a new job. It is a mandatory requirement for all employers to perform a search for an employee's stapled super fund before they can be joined to the employer's default super fund.

Do I need to setup automated super stapling?

Automated stapling is required to keep you compliant with your superannuation obligations. Activating super stapling will mean your employees can easily find their existing super fund details. In addition, you’ll always have a valid superannuation account to pay their contributions into if they do not provide a choice in super.

Can I still perform super stapling manually?

Yes, you can always perform a stapled super fund request manually via MyGov. Setting up automated super stapling does not restrict you from being able to perform manual super stapling requests.

I received a notification that a super stapling request was made for my new employee.

This is to be expected. You will receive a notification via MyGov when a super stapling request is made for an employee. The employee will also receive a message via MyGov. When you log into your MyGov account for a business, and view the stapled super fund page, you will see all the stapled super fund request that have been made. Automated & manual super stapling requests will appear here.

Who can set up super stapling for my business?

Anyone with access to the businesses ATO Access Manager portal can set up the ATO connection. E.g. the business owner, payroll administrator or finance manager.

If you’re a tax or BAS agent wanting to set up the connection on behalf of your client, you authorise the connection within your agent portal.

If you’re a business owner and are unsure how to access the ATO portal, please get in touch with your bookkeeper or accountant for support.

Who is SuperAPI?

SuperAPI, our parent company, is an ATO digital service provider. They provide the digital super choice form that employees are able to submit their details through via their XOnboard onboarding session. SuperAPI are also able to access the ATO’s Super Stapling API on your behalf, which is why their details are required when setting up the connection.
